Komsberg Farm
A pioneering Namibian farming project
Socotra Island Investments (Pty) Ltd, trading as Komsberg, is a pioneering, integrated agricultural enterprise located in southeastern Namibia along the Orange River. Amalgamating three farms in the “Valley with Mountains,” Komsberg specializes in premium produce, primarily table grapes, citrus, blueberries and dates for international market. The company leverages its strategic southern hemisphere location to supply European, Asian, and African markets during the high-demand peak season.
Key Advantages
Komsberg’s competitive strength is built on several critical pillars:
- Optimal Climate: A location with minimal frost/hail risk and an extended growing season ensures premium fruit quality.
- Modern Cultivation: Over 85% of crops planted since 2018 feature high-yield, leading varietals.
- Cost Efficiency: Significant investment in solar PV infrastructure drastically reduces energy costs and aims for full irrigation independence from the national grid.
- Social Impact: The farm provides vital employment for approximately 800 people in a region with high unemployment.
Future Vision
Having already invested USD 120 million to its growth trajectory, Komsberg is further backed by an additional USD 80 million investment plan spanning five years, underscoring its unwavering focus on expansion and long-term sustainability. Key initiatives include scaling solar capacity, expanding table grape and blueberry production, developing citrus and date palms, and enhancing overall infrastructure.
